Yesterday's activities included:
- Visiting my grandmother (my last remaining grandparent) at the home. She was very happy to see us. Mom and dad said we caught her on an especially good day, as far as health and spirits were concerned.
- Last minute shopping for my brother and his girlfriend's daughter. Everyone was all "avoid the mall! it'll be insane!" We get there and half the parking lot is empty. Perhaps that was insane by local standards.
- Visiting my uncle (my dad's brother the ninja) and his family for a bit (without my parents ... it is always, um, "interesting" to get each others' perspective on the other when the others aren't around).
- Christmas Eve party with my mom's extended family. Originally there was supposed to be this gift exchange game where everyone picks a gift from the pile at random, and then we read this story that involves the words "left" and "right" and people pass the gifts, and at the end you get what you end up with. But then everyone wanted to do it Yankee Swap style, so we did that first, and CLV and I ended up with a can of peanuts and some KY lottery tickets (potential big win!). My mom had gotten this big glass vase, and when it came to be my dad's turn, he stole the other, matching, big glass vase from someone else. He was so proud that they now had a pair of matching vases, but boy was my mom ticked to have two vases she didn't want. So when we were all done, she insisted on doing the left/right thing (thus nullifying the results of the Yankee Swap), which we all did, and CLV and I ended up with an electronic "20 questions" toy. The lottery tickets turned out to have a value of $3, so no huge loss.
- Wrapping all of the presents we couldn't wrap at home due to TSA inspections. By the time I got all of C-L's presents wrapped it was after 1am.
Today we have unstructured free time until about 3, when my brother, his daughter (age 7), his girlfriend, and his girlfriend's daughter come over for more family gift exchanging and dinner. We've never met his girlfriend and her daughter, so that should be nice.
